Very unusual conception & way of talking about dialectics (it may very well be peculiar to Plotinus & not attributable to you- I haven’t read his writings on the subject- but it’s certainly very different from any other tradition of dialectics I’ve ever studied). There’s been so much refinement & further consideration of this concept, through the various esoteric & spiritual traditions which have for millennia studied the principle of polarity, nondualism, or the “coincidencia oppositorum,” from ancient Vedantists through the Hermeticists through Hegel, & then the dialectical materialists... Still, it’s interesting to hear Plotinus’ thoughts on this prototypical conception of the dialectic, even if it was little more than an abstraction of the Socratic dialogue. It’s only by starting at this origin, with this thesis, that dialecticians throughout history have moved us forward towards a more complete & powerful synthetic understanding of the subject, both in terms of its metaphysical implications & the application of dialectical method/reasoning.
